Press releasesDSV Road Explores UK Rail Freight Potential
DSV Road, buoyed by itsrecent acquisition of
Roadferry, says it has commissioned a report looking intothe potential of using
rail freight for itsUKnetwork. Itbelieves that with increasing congestion on
theUK'sroads and more environmental demands from its customers, rail freight
couldoffer a potential solution on certain routes.
René
FalchOlesen,UKmanaging director atDSVRoad, says: "Weare hoping to explore the
market in terms of what is available now and trendsfor the future. We have to
match that up against whether we see that beinguseful for our operation." Olesen
says that there may be scope to run a railservice between ports and inland
facilities to carry unaccompanied trailersbetween the two.He adds: "Rail may
become part of the movement, but youwill never get away from [road]
entirely."
